Cocoon Hotel

Cocoon Hotel

A new perception of the city

The site of the hotel is the corner of Lafayette Street, Bond Street and Great Jones Street. What traditionally would have been the front of the hotel would face a very boring facade across Lafayette Street, almost like a dark wall.  The corner of south Lafayette and Bond Street have a beautiful urban view with a long vista downtown. I choose to base the building upon the view I wanted to catch. Therefor the hotel has to be angled to get the most of the surrounding urban landscape.  Hanging in the cocoons above the sidewalk one has both maximized light and a nice southern Manhattan view. The hotel is planned so that each room has a hanging cocoon of its own. You move from the communal parts of the hotel to more and more private areas. The cocoons are the most intimate place for one or two persons only
